Teenage Rockstar is an Internet platform on which you can show what you've got! We are looking forward to your applications in the categories of either vocal, guitar, bass or drums.
To be able to participate, you must be between 8 to 18 years of age.
Who will evaluate your performance?
The other users will decide, along with a panel of music industry experts.
The highest-rated talent from Teenage-Rockstar will be invited to a summer camp to record a music CD and learn how to make a live rock show from the ground up.
1. 1. Approved Songs & Videos
Casting for the Teenage Rockstar 2010 must be registered with the following songs:
1. 1. Teenage Rockstar Songs (including our “Task of the Week”)
2. 2. Original compositions
3. 3. Traditional
4. 4. Cover Versions
The categories in detail:
1.Teenage Rockstar Songs
Teenage rock star songs (TRS songs) are first those songs that were recorded in the course of the summer 2009 from the teenage rock star finalists for the CD "Teenage Rockstar Number One"“. You can find these songs on the TRS website under "2009". Listen to them, choose one song and rehearse it.
Coming soon will be a page called "Songs": Here you will find the videos for the songs, inclusive of lyrics and chords.
You can use the album "Teenage Rockstar Number One" of course in our online shop, buy it in shops or download it on an online platform like itunes or musicload. Soon to be published will be a special Karaoke edition on which you will have all the original songs along with all the TRS-backing versions to simplify your presentation.
Each week of the competition there will be new demos of new songs for your performance. As we increase this choice of TRS songs in the course of the casting these new demos for download will provide you with a "task of the week “.
Important to keep in mind is that if you decide to perform the TRS songs it's easier for the jury to assess whether you are possibly the best candidate to be chosen for the Summer Camp. Regularly during the casting the best performances of TRS-songs will be given hthe "TRS bonus Award" (more on that later).
Important to note: For video clips with a TRS-song, please label TRS. An example: You sing on your clip a version of "Live my Life”. Then you write the song title: TRS “Live my Life” when you upload.
2. Traditional
Traditional is known as folk music or folk songs in the broadest sense - like "Happy Birthday" or "Amazing Grace" to "O Tannenbaum." Listen to these on the website.
Go to “Songs” and navigate through some "traditional" some examples. lt. (Coming soon online) There are beautiful traditional songs from around the world. We have presented only a small selection, but you can record any Traditional song you like. A little tip: In many Songbooks you'll find well-known traditional songs!
Included in the casting will be the chance for the best performances of traditional standards, and for these there will also be the "TRS-Bonus Award" (more on that later).
Important to note: For video-clips of Traditional songs, please label "Trad”. An example: You sing on your clip a version of "Waltzing Matilda". Then you write the song title: Trad-“Waltzing Matilda”, when you upload.
3. Original Compositions
When we started this competition in 2009 we had so many users with their own wonderful compositions! We want to stimulate your creativity and look forward to hear your own originally composed songs this year too. Some samples from last year you'll find on "Songs" on the navigation menu under the heading "their own compositions." (Soon online)
For the best performances of original compositions throughout the casting, there will also be "TRS-Bonus Awarded" given. (more on that below).
Important to note: For video-clips with your own original composition, please label Original Comp. An example: You sing on your video a song written about you with the title "Hello". Then you write in song title: Original Comp “Hello” when you upload.
Should you be a member of the collecting societies (AKM / GEMA be), then you validate your legal representative to upload your video, waiving the debt collection by the collecting society for your own composition on all online platforms for Teenage Rockstar, and all the web performances of the partners of Teenage Rockstar online platforms. (e.g. www.krone.at)
4. Cover Versions
What if you find none of the TRS-songs to your range, no Traditional in your ability and do not have your own songs? Then an exception comes into force. Under certain conditions, the casting will allow the interpretation of familiar songs, also known as cover versions.
However, it is very important to note: You cannot change the lyrics, melody and structure of the song.
You cannot perform the song to a playback that is not yours!
Why is this?
The recording that you hear on the CD of your favorite artist is a copyright that is owned by “a record company and it is not allowed to be copied or broadcast without their permission”
The solution is this: You can perform the song a cappella (without instrumental accompaniment) or you or a friend get an instrument and accompany you.
Please remember: cover versions are well suited to assess your talent, but you will not get a TRS-Bonus!
Important to note: For video-clips with cover versions please label Cover. An example: You sing on your video a cover version of the song “Yesterday”.. Then you write in song title: Cover “Yesterday” when you upload.
IMPORTANT! THE TRS-BONUS
For the best performance by TRS-songs, Traditional, and original compositions, the TRS-jury constantly awards a TRS Bonus. This bonus does the following: 20 percent of the votes that you received for your video up to that point are complemented by 5-star votes from the jury.
Example: This means that if you score 4.0 stars with 100 votes and you receive a TRS Bonus, then you get to eight p.m. 5-Star Votes (20% of your) to 100 votes. Your average rating is rising in this example by the TRS-Bonus to 4.16 Stars with 120 Votes.
2. Voting
Any registered and logged-in user can rate each video once.
Just click in the individual video windows at the stars. (1 star = I do not like at all, to 5 stars = this is great!)
My Videos cannot be assessed and voted on by myself.
Your grade is the average of the votes cast.
Your placement in the charts decides your best rated video.. These videos you will recognize with a blue star in the upper right corner that says "Top". Note: The blue star will appear only if your video enters the Top10 ratings or has been preserved in the standings. This video is then your top video.
When you upload a new video to appear, your profile picture will come up, initially in the daily charts as "Rock Star of the day." (Where the average rating of your new video will be judged against the 6 highest-rated videos of the last 24 hours there, and where your video will be visible for the next 24 hours).
If you have more than 5 votes collected, then your profile image appears in the weekly charts, "Rock Star of the week." (Where the average rating of your new video will be judged against the 6 highest-rated videos of the last 7 days there, and where your profile picture will be visible for 7 days.
If there are more than 10 votes were cast for your video, you advance into the general rock star charts. You can get these in addition to the main video window on the home page.
The more current your video is, it determines your position in the charts (Top video at the Blue Star chart), but watch out at the top of the charts! A few single-chart votes can greatly affect your placement, both for better and for worse. But over time and with increasing votes your chart moves can steady out.
If you are younger than twelve, you will have your own placement in the "Kid rock star charts .If you are older than twelve, in the rock star charts.
IMPORTANT! If users attempt to gain an advantage, by giving all the other users 1-star votes, this "down-voting" will not be so easy. Once you give a video a bad rating (one or two stars give), you have to justify your decision. The comment also is taken into account i the vote and with how many stars have been given.
3. Jury
TRS-Bonus
The TRS-Jury awards during the entire casting TRS bonuses for the best performances of TRS-songs, Traditional, and original compositions.
You will see in the comments about your video whether you have received the TRS-bonus.
The TRS-Bonus will be applied directly to the video with your performance of a TRS-songs, one of your own compositions or a Traditional song (and not to the highest of your "Top Videos").
Jury-Bonus
During the castings (we will soon tell you exactly at what point) start the "Duties of the week". For the "task of the week" you have exactly seven days each time. Those who have done it best according to TRS jury will receive the "jury bonus".
The jury added bonus of 25% of Votes of your highest rated video with 5-star votes. (If your best rated video shows a rating of 4 stars with 100 votes and you get the jury bonus, then so does your rating: 4.2 stars by 125 Votes)
You see in the comments about your video, whether you have received the jury's bonus.
Professional jurors rating
In the final phase of the auditions professional jurors come from the music business to evaluate your talent.
The assessment of professional jurors has the most weight of all the votes!
Should expert jurors propose you for the Summer Camp, 50% of the votes that you have collected so far for your top video are complemented by 5-star votes. The guest expert judgment will be applied to your highest rated video.
Example: If you have a cut of 4.0 stars with 100 votes and the expert jurors choose you, then you get 50 5-Star Votes (50%) to your 100 votes. Your average rating is rising to 4,33 and 150 votes, in this example of the weighting of the expert jurors. You will see in the comments about your video wheter you have received the expert jurors evaluation.
4.Videos
4.1. What may be shown?
The uploaded videos are intended only to show you.
Band videos and video clips are not allowed.
The performance must be live!
The videos should be spontaneous, unadorned and very close to reality.
The videos should not be longer than one minute.
For singers, for example it is possible to film them live performing acapella to a karaoke version of their favorite TRS number.
Singer can also accompany themselves on an instrument. (However, they can apply, as all other participants, for only one category.)
For guitarists: Make sure videos show you playing on an acoustic guitar or electric guitar. Either showing your solo improvisational arts, or if you run background music, please ensure you own the rights to the music you're playing – or make it easy by playing to-TRS-backing.
For bass players and drummers the same applies as for guitarists.
It is a good idea to say a little something before or after a musical performance - a few words about yourself - especially if it includes some creativity and wit!
